Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
What is ADP?
The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is a program operated by the Ontario Ministry of Health. The ADP program contributes to covering the cost for persons requiring mobility devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, wheelchair seating.
Am I Eligible for Funding Assistance?
The Assistive Devices Program provides financial assistance to Ontario residents with an OHIP card who need mobility equipment for a period of time greater than six months. Work injuries or Veterans (Group A) may not be covered.
How much funding is provided?
The maximum amount ADP covers as percentage of the cost up of mobility equipment is set at a maximum amount.
If you are a person on ODSP orhave benefits from Ontario Works, or are covered through the Assistance to Children with Severe Disabilities, you may be eligible to receive additional funds. Otherwise, you or your insurance will pay the remaining portion.
What if my equipment wears out?
The ADP may also offer assistance in funding new equipment if your old equipment is worn out, or if your needs or body size have changed.
How do I Apply?
You must have an assessment done by an authorized ADP therapist to complete the ADP application. SILVER CROSS can assist you in finding an ADP authorized therapist.

What is the ADP Assessment?
The ADP assessment usually takes place in your home. The therapist will assess your condition and will determine how you will benefit from a mobility device, and which mobility device will best fit your needs. The therapist will also determine the size, model, and features of the mobility equipment.
Prior to having the assessment, be sure to tell the authorizer that SILVER CROSS is your vendor of choice.
SILVER CROSS will provide the mobility equipment necessary for the assessment, followed by a free equipment trial if it is required by the therapist.
After the Assessment:
1. The therapist will determine whether or not you are eligable to apply for a mobility device.
2. You will then sign the ADP application, and you or the therapist will mail it to the ADP office.
3. While you wait for the approval for funding, SILVER CROSS will provide you with equipment depending on your needs. The cost of this equipment would be applied to your share of the new equipment once the new piece of equipment is put in place.
4. You will be required to pay the client portion of the purchase price upon ordering the new equipment.
5. ADP will review your application to determine that you are eligible to recieve the funding.
6. Once they approve your application they will notify your therapist and SILVER CROSS to let them know exactly how much money will be contributed to the purchase of your equipment.
7. SILVER CROSS will assist you in applying for funding through the ADP program.
Recycled Equipment Helps Fill Requests
Some equipment does not meet the funding criteria. For instance, only one piece of equipment maybe covered with the program. So, if you require a wheelchair inside the house, and outside then recycled equipment may fill your need for a second piece of equipment. In addition, any equipment above the maximum amount is not covered with the program. SILVER CROSS may be able to fill your specific need with quality, gently used recycled equipment.
