Is recycled equipment available?
It is impossible to database recycled equipment on a national basis due to the fact that demand outweighs supply. Most used equipment comes from the repurchase of new lifts when the end users no longer need them. Often, a piece of used equipment sells within hours of becoming available. The local affiliate is the best source to find out what recycled equipment is currently available.
What do you mean when you say funding may be available?
Funding varies by state, province, region and city. Generally speaking, it is more common to have some funding available for mobility equipment than for elevating devices. Sometimes, being at the right place at the right time determines whether funding is available. This is why the local SILVER CROSS location or affiliate is the best source to answer the question, "Is there any funding available?" Can I drive to pick up used equipment in another area?
Our SILVER CROSS locations or affiliates cover a defined geographical area for both installation and service. They are not willing to go beyond these boundaries. So, to drive to an affiliate's office and pick up a piece of equipment is not an option. Our affiliates want to support their product sales after the fact and thereby must define their business boundaries.
Can I install a recycled lift myself?
No. Our policy states that a recycled lift must be installed by a qualified installer. There are many reasons for this stance. There are safety switches that need to be carefully removed during a lift removal and track lengths require cutting to fit the new location's stair slope. Also, seats must be installed flat for safe transfers in and out of the chair. These are only a few of the reasons why a qualified installer must be used.
Do recycled products require more service?
If the recycled equipment has been gently used and is a current model, then it is quite common to have less service on a used piece of equipment. This is mainly due to the customer's expectation being lower with used equipment .
What about the self installed option for a stair lift?
This is certainly possible for a straight set of stairs with no turns whatsoever. The cost to have your lift professionally installed by an affiliate simplifies the process. Almost all affiliates will not sell a used elevating device unless they install it. For availability of used lifts, please click here.
Who do I give the answers to the questions asked in your e-mail?
The local SILVER CROSS location or affiliate will need the answers to these questions.
When offering recycled products in mobility equipment and elevating devices, the following points are key:
1) Supply current models so that parts are available for service,
2) Provide information on the previous owner's use and care of the equipment,
3) Have knowledge on how to properly install and service the lift provided to a new user.
4) Knowing the previous user of a piece of equipment is a good source of information, especailly when deciding whether or not the product should be purchased. Factors such as the weight of the previous owner can have a major factor in wear and tear. If he / she was a smoker is another fact to consider. The frequency of the products use is also something to consider.
Why don't you list your locations?
Not all locations offer all products so this required us to set up a database where we match the zip code with both the specific product and the affiliate. When you complete our on line form, our database searches for the closest location that offers the product. In this way, the person inquiring can receive the correct location in an organized and automated way.
Why do you not have a phone number listed on your web site?
We are not a call centre. This is a free service to the site user and we can not hire the staff to handle hundreds of incoming phone calls on a daily basis. Please complete our registration form to receive more information about availability of recycled product, local funding sources and product models.
Will I be bothered by a high pressure sales person?
Absolutely not. When you request more information on our form, we first e-mail you specific information about that product that will assist you in understanding how to select the correct model that will meet your need. Then we ask a local location to contact you to answer any questions you may have. This service is information based to help you to become better informed about a solution to your mobility and accessibility needs.
